Nature resourses

Location
According to the administrative-territorial division of Republic of Bulgaria, Dryanovo municipality is included in Gabrovo district. It is situated in the south part of North central region. It borders on Tryavna, Gabrovo, Sevlievo and Veliko Tarnovo.
Dryanovo is 22 km away from Gabrovo, 24 km away from Veliko Tarnovo and 212 km away from the Bulgarian capital- Sofia. The closest capital to the town is Bucharest- 201 km. First- class road goes through the municipality- E-85 which connects main economic centers: Rouse-Veliko Tarnovo- Gabrovo- Shipka- Kazanlak- Stara Zagora. Main railway thoroughfare goes through the municipality and connects north and south Bulgaria: Rouse- Gorna Oryahovitsa- Dabovo- Stara Zagora- Podkova. From its whole area: 60% agricultural areas, 32% wood area, 6% water area, 1%- transport and infrastructure and only 0,6%- populated areas and urbanization areas.

Relief  
The relief is varied and strongly uneven and rough. There are many valleys, gullies, narrow hills and ridges with sheer slopes. The altitude varies from 180m to 640m. The horizontal segmentation of the relief varies from 1,5 km to 3 km and the vertical- from 100 to 200m. The highest point is “Minin chukar”- 704m. In Dryanovo region there are many caves, whirlpools and pot-holes. There is formed a group of caves (“Andaka” and “Polichkite”) from which “Bacho Kiro” cave is most significant amongst all the caves in the region.
The administrative center of the municipality is situated on the valley of Dryanovska river.
Its altitude is from 234 to 300 m.

Mineral resources
Dryanovo municipality is comparatively poor on mineral resources. There are couple of stone-pits. Nowadays only one stone-pit works- in the village of Skalsko.

Physical-geographical processes
Dryanovo municipality is situated on the territory of the young folded morphostructure of the Balkans. It consists of three lengthwise parts: Fore Balkan, Balkan mountains and Sredna Gora. Dryanovo municipality is situated in the Fore Balkan.
Geological structure of the territory: clay-carbonize sediments from the early Cretaceous period.    
Dryanovo municipality belongs to the periphery of Gorna Oryahovitsa seismic zone. The strongest influence of the seismic situation is prognosticated in Dryanovo and the villages Skalsko, Gostilitsa and Radovtsi.

Hydro-geological conditions
The combination of relief, climate, rock composition, soils and flora is important for the formation and the territorial distribution of the waters in Dryanovo municipality.
The capacity of the rivers is low, with rainy-snow regime- with spring maximum and autumn minimum of the flow. The average annual number of the high waters is between 40 and 50 days.

Soils  
On the territory of Dryanovo municipality there is no wide variety of soils. The main soil cover is gray forest soil. The gray forest soils form in the conditions of moderate continental climate and have mould horizon. These soils have unfavourable physical mechanical characteristics. The soil layer is thin and ash-colored.

Climate 
The climate оn the territory of the municipality is moderate continental. The summer is hot with average July temperature around 21ْC and the winter is cold with average January temperature around 1,3ْC. The average annual temperature is 10 ْC. Predominating are the west, the northwest and the northeast winds oriented over the river valleys. The average speed of the wind is 1 meter per second. Sometimes during the spring the rainfalls cause huge floods.

The most rainfalls are during the period May-June and the least: January-February. The region is characterized with the highest annual duration of sun shining and no foggy days.

Water resources
Dryanovo municipality belongs to the hydrologic area with moderate continental climate influence. On the territory of the municipality flow the rivers Qntra, Dryanovska and their numerous feeders: Andaka, Ramadana, Mala drqnka and others. They belong to the Black sea wast area as feeders of Danube river. Qntra river (286km) is the second largest river in Danube catchment area. It is used for watering and particular industrial activities. There are built two water electric power stations on Qntra river: “Qntra” and “Kalomen”.

Flora and fauna
The flora on the territory of Dryanovo municipality is represented of wood-frutescent vegetation, pastures and meadows. Predominating are broad-leaved forests and compound forests. The forests on the territory of the municipality are mainly of: oak-tree, cerris oak, beech-tree, elm-tree, yoke-elm, sycamore, ash-tree. From the coniferous: pine-tree and fir-tree. From the frutescent predominating are: sumac, cornel-tree, hawthorn, wild briar, thistle. The different natural-geographic elements as relief, soils, water resources create excellent conditions for growing walnut-trees, plum trees, cherry-trees, morello trees, peach trees. There are good conditions for growing grape vine.

The fauna on the territory of Dryanovo municipality is of euro-siberian and European kind while there are not so many Mediterranean species because of Balkan mountains.
Among the mammals most popular are red deer, doe, hare, wild-boar, dormouse, badger, forest mouse, and among the birds: pheasant, partridge, eagle, falcon, thrush and others; migratory birds: quail, pigeon, turtle dove. This creates good conditions for developing  hunting tourism. Most widely distributed are marten, fox, hedgehog and otherс. Representatives of the reptiles are the viper, the grass-snake and the blind worm. Amphibians are mostly the salamander and the alpine triton and the invertebrates are Carpathian and north butterflies, spiders, bugs.
