The clock tower

The Clock Tower in Dryanovo was built in 1778.
It is a high centrical construction, a combination of three gradated in height sizes and blocks. The lower part was made of coarse, unprocessed stone cemented with lime and sand solution, and its form was of a four-sided prism with square base with size 5 m. long. 11 openings were left for the penetration of light – 5 on the west and 3 on each of the east and south sides. On the east façade there was a door from which a wooden ladder leaded upwards. On the south façade there was a built-in stone arch. The lower part ended with a stone cornice covered with flagstones. Above it the four-sided prism was transformed into octagonal and it also ended with a cornice, covered with Turkish roof-tiles. In this part was placed the timing mechanism. There was no information about what was the first mechanism, because in 1883 it was replaced with a new one, made in Tryavna by the masters Gencho Kolev and Hristo Vasilev. The Clock Tower was rised above the surrounding buildings for one hundred and sixty seven years. But cracks started to appear in its body, traces of previous earthquakes, but no restoration was made. In 1945 it was demolished. Yet for the people of Dryanovo the Clock Tower had the importance of a monument within the architectural town ensemble. That is why in 1984 the Clock Tower was rebuilt near the Ikonomova House, built by Kolyu Ficheto.
The preserved clock mechanics were repaired and adjusted by Iliya Kovachev – a member of the group of the masters, a winner of the golden belt.
